AI Coding in Engineering: Understand the Whole System
I recently took an automated subway and sat in the very front.
For the first time, I could clearly see inside the tunnel.
It was not dark or mysterious at all.
There were lights, walkways for workers, maintenance areas, control rooms, and many other systems along the way.
Everything was clear and organized.
It made me think about AI vibe coding in engineering.
For engineers who only use software, the software can feel like a subway tunnel.
You get on at point A, enter some inputs, and hope the software takes you safely to point B.
You may not really know what is happening inside.
But if you develop engineering software, you need to understand the tunnel.
With AI and vibe coding, you do not need to enter every control room or operate every system yourself.
AI can handle many of those details.
But you still need to walk through the tunnel.
You need to know what each part does, where the important control points are, and how everything connects.
Then the system is no longer a black box.
If the train stops somewhere, you know where it stopped and why.
You are not just sitting inside, hoping it will reach the destination without any problems.
I think this is how engineers should approach AI vibe coding:
You don’t need to control every detail yourself.
But you need to understand the whole system.
